Distribution of Heavy Metals Associated with Petroleum in the Northern Persian Gulf: Bushehr and Nayband Bay Area
author
Abstract:
Parts of oil spills reach Iranian coastline along the Persian Gulf in the form of tar balls and scattered oilpatches. There are many published reports regarding oil spills reaching northern coasts of the Persian Gulf, but none report on the content of heavy metals associated with petroleum in sediments and plants ofcontaminated areas. This research was conducted to determine and map petroleum- related heavy metals(Ni, V and S) distribution in sediments and weathered tar balls and bitumen using XRF analysis. It isdetermined there was contamination of heavy metals associated with petroleum, for example, Ni,V, and Sin sediments of northern coasts of the Persian Gulf in Bushehr and Nayband Bay Area.

Ecological risk assessment using heavy metals from surface sediments of Nayband Bay and Asaluyeh region (Northern Persian Gulf)
The toxicity of heavy metals in sediments of the Nayband Bay and Asaluyeh region and potential ecological risk to sediment organisms assessed. Three stations with different degrees of vulnerability of South Pars Oil and Gas Activities (1: Control - 2: medium affected and 3: severely affected) were selected in the study area. Sediment sampling at each station in both cold and hot seasons (2010) ...
full textAssessing some heavy metals pollutions in sediments of the northern Persian Gulf (Bushehr province)
Background: Land and water pollution by heavy metals is a universal issue. Although the pollution affects all countries, but its range and severity vary hugely. The pollution of the marine environment by heavy metals is a worldwide problem. Marine sediments can be sensitive indicators for monitoring contaminants in aquatic environments. Methods: The concentration of 10 elements (As, Cd, Cr, Cu...

The spatial distribution of benthic foraminiferal assemblage of Nayband Bay and Haleh Estuary in the North-West of the Persian Gulf, was explored during 2011-2012 . The relationship between spatial pattern of foraminifera assemblages and the ambient factors (i.e. water temperature, salinity, pH, dissolved oxygen, sediment grain size distribution, sediment organic content, and CaCO3 concentrati...

full textMetal Concentrations in Padina Species and Associated Sediment from Nayband Bay and Bostaneh Port, Northern Coast of the Persian Gulf, Iran
The status of metal concentrations including Pb, Cd, Cu, Ni, Zn and Fe in six species of Padina were determined in polluted (Nayband Bay) and unpolluted (Bostaneh port) areas on the Coast of the Persian Gulf. The mean concentrations of metals in the sediment of two locations were: Pb (12.64), Cd (3.59), Cu (21.74), Ni (17.00), Zn (32.00) and Fe (677.53) µg g-1 dry weight, respectively. In ...
full textStudy of Metals Concentrations in Surface Sediments of the Persian Gulf Coastal Area (Bushehr Province)
Since heavy metals are considered as one of the major pollutants threatening, the main goal of this study was to bring out the concentrations of Pb, Zn and Mn in the surface sediments off Bushehr in the Persian Gulf. For this purpose, after collection of samples, the concentrations of the three metals in surface sediments were measured through the atomic absorption. The results were compared wi...
